Endless Summers
The late Bruce Brown's 1966 film, The Endless Summer, is now recognized as the ultimate surfing movie. It documents a symbolic lifestyle, an idealized freedom expressed in the search for the perfect wave.
It's also the story of the joy one finds in pursuing a dream.

In the classic Joseph Campbell tradition, it's a "Hero's Journey," a transformational adventure that is fulfilled when, after traveling half-way around the world, the surfers ride the perfect wave. When the The Endless Summer was released, it mesmerized the entire country, not just the California coast.

The film made the surfing lifestyle synonymous with joy, helping it evolve into a sport, then into a profession, and finally into an industry.

This photograph captures that moment when today's surfer connects with his
past, and his future, all
searching for the perfect wave.
